Jabs are meant to be faster than they are harder, so the key thing to remember with a jab is to bring back your hand quickly. You’ll be using the opposite arm. You’re also getting your whole body in on this one. To throw a cross that won’t hurt your back, start from the feet again. When you throw a cross, turn your back foot so it faces the front. The motion will follow all the way up to the hip, which should also turn towards the front. As your body turns, throw your cross letting the power come through the shoulder--lightly at first. The punch should land straight ahead, again using your first two knuckles as a guide. Practice aiming for one spot. As you improve your accuracy, add more power, and eventually add more speed. One hint for throwing a good hook is to remember that like the jab and cross, the punch is coming from the whole body. Remember that you’re throwing punches with your shoulders and not your fists. To throw a hook, start with your lead side. Raise your arm up to shoulder height, bending your elbow to create the hook with your thumb on top of your fist. For the motion, turn your whole body in the direction of your fist, while also turning your foot and leg in the same direction, letting your upper body follow as you throw the punch. To reset, make sure you’re facing front again, hand guarding the face. For the other side, don’t switch your lead leg. One thing you can measure is your stamina and your speed. Keep count of how many punches you can do in a set amount of time, making sure to use the correct technique. Punching technique should always come first so your body learns the right muscles to propel your punch while protecting your other muscles. For example: When you throw a punch, you should feel your glutes flexing while you turn your body. This means that multiple muscle groups are active to throw the punch and your whole body is engaged. After you've perfected your punching technique, you can start punching a little faster. Swimming laps around a pool use just about every muscle you have, and also get your lungs and heart rate working in no time! Try for however many laps you can at a smooth, steady pace.\n\n-Tabata Bag Drills\nOne great way to get your anaerobic endurance up is with Tabata drills on the heavy bag. By working the classic 10 seconds on, 5 seconds off rhythm at maximum effort for 1-3 minutes at a time, you very accurately mimic the actual rhythm and pace of a competitive match. You can find this drill in the FightCamp App under 10-to-5 Interval Sprint. This helps build your lactic acid threshold and arm endurance in addition to being great cardio training. Plus you get to punch something!\n\n-Footwork Heavy Sports\nThis might seem obvious but doesn’t cross a lot of people’s minds: playing any sport, even in a casual setting, is a great way to increase your cardio. For example, I have a soccer field near me so on days when I don’t feel like just jogging, I can usually find a pickup game there. Anything like soccer, basketball, tennis, or dancing are great ways to supplement cardio training and will help with your boxing footwork as an added bonus.\n\n-Hiking\nIf you have a local trail, it's always good to get out in nature every once in a while and hiking is a great way to get your resting heart rate down and your leg endurance up while still enjoying the gorgeous scenery. Just make sure to bring water and healthy snacks! \n\n-Shadowboxing Punchouts\nI used to do this one all the time during the height of the lockdown when I couldn’t necessarily get out to run very often but still needed to keep a baseline cardio fitness. The idea here is to find a rhythm with 4 punches (I use the jab, cross, lead uppercut, and rear uppercut) while maintaining proper form and repeating it as quickly as you can for as long as you can without taking a break. It's awesome for your shoulders and improves your punching form as well.","What are different forms of cardo exercises?",{"name":206,"created_at":207,"published_at":208,"updated_at":209,"id":210,"uuid":211,"content":1983,"slug":206,"full_slug":226,"sort_by_date":48,"position":227,"tag_list":1995,"is_startpage":9,"parent_id":57,"meta_data":48,"group_id":229,"first_published_at":230,"release_id":48,"lang":60,"path":48,"alternates":1996,"default_full_slug":48,"translated_slugs":48,"_stopResolving":62},{"_uid":213,"name":214,"category":1984,"component":39,"meta_info":1992,"block_image":1993,"cover_image":1994,"internal_notes":7},{"name":140,"created_at":141,"published_at":142,"updated_at":143,"id":144,"uuid":145,"content":1985,"slug":140,"full_slug":325,"sort_by_date":48,"position":55,"tag_list":1990,"is_startpage":9,"parent_id":135,"meta_data":48,"group_id":327,"first_published_at":328,"release_id":48,"lang":60,"path":48,"alternates":1991,"default_full_slug":48,"translated_slugs":48,"_stopResolving":62},{"_uid":147,"name":148,"topics":1986,"component":118,"meta_info":1987,"meta_title":7,"block_image":1988,"cover_image":1989,"internal_notes":7,"meta_description":7},[156,184,211,238,265,292],{"_uid":315,"title":316,"plugin":43,"description":317},{"id":319,"alt":320,"name":7,"focus":48,"title":320,"filename":321,"copyright":7,"fieldtype":50},{"id":323,"alt":320,"name":7,"focus":48,"title":320,"filename":324,"copyright":7,"fieldtype":50},[],[],{"_uid":216,"title":217,"plugin":43,"description":218},{"id":220,"alt":221,"name":7,"focus":48,"title":221,"filename":222,"copyright":7,"fieldtype":50},{"id":224,"alt":221,"name":7,"focus":48,"title":221,"filename":225,"copyright":7,"fieldtype":50},[],[],{"type":748,"content":1998},[1999,2003,2008,2013,2038,2043,2066,2071,2085,2090,2104,2109,2113,2118,2122,2126,2137],{"type":759,"content":2000},[2001],{"text":2002,"type":757},"Boxing is a high-action sport, and fighters need a ton of stamina to keep the pace for an entire match. Unless you’re incorporating interval training and sprint work into your running, swimming, or biking, you’re not achieving that crucial recovery in your cardio workouts.
