First True Love, Football!
PJ Shirdan was born in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia, home to, as PJ likes to put it, “some of the greatest things in life.” Growing up was difficult for PJ so to distract himself during tough times, he played video games, especially Madden football. But, when he was ten years old, he discovered his first true love…
Some kids grow up and immediately take to a sport. For PJ, it wasn’t until he was ten that he first picked up a football–and when he did, it turns out he had a natural knack for the sport. Once he started practicing, the fun began, and he quickly excelled. Even after playing for such a short time, by the end of high school, 107 colleges thought he had enough talent to play collegiate football on a full-ride athletic scholarship. PJ ultimately accepted West Virginia University’s offer to attend and play football.
Finding His One True Calling
Some of the best times and most meaningful events in PJ’s life happened while he attended West Virginia University. At school, PJ tore his ACL 3 times, and was almost forced to take a medical leave of absence but instead, it lead him down a completely different path to discover one of the best things that would ever happen to him: Boxing. PJ remembers first stumbling upon a flyer that announced boxing tryouts at WVU, and he decided to give it a shot. As it turns out, he was about to fall in love with another sport–all over again.
Seeing that boxing flyer was truly life-changing for PJ. He was a natural boxer and began his boxing career with an impressive 4-0 record, knocking out all of his opponents. He continued to compete, but he knew he wanted more. PJ felt that it was his responsibility to share his great knowledge of boxing with the world. In his words, “to bear the fruit of that, to actually help others become the best versions of themselves,” is the mantra that he lives each and every day. This is his true calling.
The Best Is Yet To Come
Everything was coming full circle. PJ figured out that coaching was not only in his blood, but was his true passion and purpose. Small group training soon led to a move to Los Angeles, and before he knew it, he was training both UFC fighters and professional boxers. All of PJ’s hard work and effort was finally paying off.
He was offered the chance to work with FightCamp, and it was the perfect opportunity to:
